Tip #1: What are your specializations and expertise?

I specialize in helping clients navigate anxiety, intergenerational trauma, and relationship challenges, including couples counseling.

I enjoy working with high-functioning, anxious people-pleasers because I’ve seen how they usually put themselves last on their to-do list and struggle alone in the dark. Many of them carry a strong desire not to repeat the lessons they’ve learned growing up, yet they find themselves constantly in survival mode, just trying to get through each day.

As a second-generation Chinese-Vietnamese American, I know firsthand the struggle of not speaking up for myself to keep the peace. For years, I neglected my needs, where unfortunately, self-criticism took over and eroded my sense of self. That lived experience helps me see the struggles my clients are going through with patience and compassion. In doing so, it gives them permission to find their voice, set boundaries, and rebuild into their true selves.

Tip #2: What’s your approach in therapy?

I’m trained as a Psychodynamic therapist and am in the process of incorporating Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness into the way I work with clients.

In other words, we begin to explore who you are (i.e., the different “parts” of you), how you got here (i.e., family and relationship history), and what to do when you feel overwhelmed or overstimulated (i.e., regulating your emotions).

Tip #3: What is your therapy style?

When we first meet, whether you're a new client or returning for additional sessions, we move at your pace. My main focus will be getting to know you and starting to build a foundation of trust, setting clear boundaries, and encouraging open communication and feedback. I hope that over time, you’ll feel more comfortable sharing your needs, wants, and vulnerabilities.

I help clients become more self-aware by slowing down together to notice what’s happening in their bodies and acknowledging the “parts” of themselves that they usually suppress. This creates space for curiosity and self-compassion.

I’m not afraid to talk about feelings of guilt, shame, and embarrassment. Over time, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing what happens when my clients and I choose to befriend their emotions rather than running away, fighting, or numbing them. When we take the time to give those emotions the mic, they become less intimidating, and clients find it easier to understand why they’re showing up in the first place.

Tip #4: Compatibility and finding the “right fit”

It’s important to feel comfortable with who you’ll be sharing your most vulnerable stories with. The relationship between you and your therapist can greatly impact the effectiveness of therapy. It’s completely natural to feel unsure about whether you’ll connect with a therapist. It’s a pretty big decision.

To help make this process easier for you, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. This allows us to discuss your needs and see if we’re a good match before you commit. There’s no pressure to say yes and shop around. I want you to find the “right fit,” and it takes time to make sure.

Tip #5: Evaluate practical factors

Consider practical aspects such as location, availability, session costs, and whether they accept your insurance. It’s also important to find a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours and whose fees fit within your budget.

I offer online therapy through Zoom, allowing clients to enjoy increased flexibility in their schedules. This convenient option not only saves you time by eliminating the need to drive to an office but also provides a comfortable environment for discussing personal challenges from the comfort of your own home.
